  The Texas Instruments BQ76952 is a highlyintegrated, high accuracy battery monitor and protector for 3-series to 16-series Li-Ion, Li-Polymer,and LiFePO4 battery packs. The device includes ahigh accuracy monitoring system, a highlyconfigurable protection subsystem, and support forautonomous or host controlled cell balancing.

  Integration includes high-side charge-pump NFETdrivers, dual programmable LDOs for external systemuse, and a host communication peripheral supporting400-kHz I2C, SPI, and HDQ one-wire standards. TheBQ76952 is available in a 48-pin TQFP package.

  The BQ76952 product is a highly integrated, accurate battery monitor and protector for 3-series to 16-series Li-Ion, Li-Polymer, and LiFePO4 battery packs. A high accuracy voltage, current, and temperature measurementaccuracy provides data for host-based algorithms and control. A feature-rich and highly configurable protectionsubsystem provides a wide set of protections which can be triggered and recovered completely autonomously bythe device or under full control of a host processor. The integrated charge pump with high-side protection NFETdrivers allows host communication with the device even when FETs are off by preserving the ground connectionto the pack. Dual programmable LDOs are included for external system use, with each independentlyprogrammable to voltages of 1.8 V, 2.5 V, 3.0 V, 3.3 V, and 5.0 V, capable of providing up to 50 mA each.

  The BQ76952 device includes one-time-programmable (OTP) memory for customers to setup device operationon their own production line. Multiple communications interfaces are supported, including 400-kHz I2C, SPI, andHDQ one-wire standards. Multiple digital control and status data are available through several multifunction pinson the device, including an interrupt to the host processor, and independent controls for host override of eachhigh-side protection NFET. Three dedicated pins are provided for temperature measurement using externalthermistors, and multifunction pins can be programmed to use for additional thermistors, supporting a total of upto 9 thermistors, in addition to an internal die temperature measurement. The following sections detail the majorcomponent blocks of the BQ76952 device.

  • High voltage tolerance of 85 V on cell connect andselect additional pins

  • Support for temperature sensing using internalsensor and up to 9 external thermistors

  • Integrated one-time-programmable (OTP) memoryprogrammable by customers on production line

  • Communication options include 400-kHz I2C, SPI,and HDQ one-wire interface

  • Dual programmable LDOs for external systemusage

  评估模块BQ76952EVM

  The BQ76952EVM evaluation module (EVM) is a complete evaluation system for the BQ76952, a 3-cell to16-cell Li-Ion battery monitor integrated circuit. The EVM consists of a BQ76952 circuit module which isused for simple evaluation of the BQ76952 monitor function. The circuit module includes one BQ76952integrated circuit (IC), sense resistor, power FETs, and all other onboard components necessary to protectthe cells from overcharge, over discharge, short circuit, and overcurrent discharge in a 16-series cell Li-Ionor Li-Polymer battery pack. The circuit module connects directly across the cells in a battery, or can beconnected with a power supply and the included cell simulator resistors. With the on-board interface orcompatible external interface board and Microsoft® Windows® based PC graphical user interface (GUI)software, the user can view the device registers, adjust protection limits and enable FET control outputs.
